Hanson Hosein, Director, Master of Communication in Digital Media
program, joined the faculty in 2007. He's an Emmy Award-winning
filmmaker and television journalist. He teaches courses on social
media, digital content creation and journalism. Hanson earned law
degrees (LL.B., B.C.L.) from McGill University in 1992 and the
University of Paris (M. en droit) in 1993. He was awarded an M.S.
from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 1994.
His documentary film, Independent America: The Two-Lane Search for
Mom & Pop has been broadcast around the world, thanks to an
innovative digital media marketing approach (Sundance Channel, NHK
Japan, SBS Australia). Hanson also produced groundbreaking films for
the U.S. government in southern Africa, for TurnHere.com, Discovery
Channel Mobile in Latin America and for aid organizations such as
PATH and Mercy Corps.
Hanson has worked as a television news correspondent and producer
from the world's hotspots for NBC News, MSNBC, CBC News, and Global
National. Among other stories, he covered the war in Iraq, the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the NATO intervention in Kosovo, the
1999 Turkey earthquake, the death of King Hussein of Jordan, and
Al-Qaeda~Rs bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.
